Society for the History of Astronomy Spring Conference 2013 – York 20th April

The Society for the History of Astronomy (SHA) held their Spring Conference in York this past Saturday (20th April) at the Quaker Meeting House on Friargate.  Society secretary Andy Exton attended the conference as a visitor along with visitors from other local astronomical societies.

The Conference included a number of speakers talking about lesser known individuals in the history of astronomy (Brits Bryan Donkin and Isaac Roberts and American Russell W Porter) as well as broader talks on areas of astronomy (Scottish telescope makers and cosmic ray astronomy).  Speakers were generally members of the SHA with the event concluding with former Astronomer Royal (1991-1995) and Emeritus Professor in the Dept. of Physics at Durham University Prof. Sir Arnold Wolfendale.  The conference was a thoroughly enjoyable and educative day.  SARAS members will be able to read a full report in the June edition of Sky Notes.

For more information on the SHA, please visit their website.  Various membership rates available including individual, family and institutional.
