Friday 17th January saw the society hold its annual open night at Ayton Village Hall. A good number of visitors on the evening attended to learn more about the society and the hobby with several taking out membership on the evening.
Clouds stayed away so society members were able to setup their equipment on the sports field to allow observation of objects including the Moon, Jupiter, the Orion Nebula and the Pleaides star cluster. A number of visitors also brought along their own telescopes to gain some much needed advice and assistance.
Inside the hall, presentation boards gave information on the society and its history, refreshments were available to warm up on a cool evening and Grovers of Northallerton had a range of beginners telescopes, binoculars and accessories on display. The evening concluded with John Harper FRAS giving a further tour of the night sky using Stellarium software.
