The peak of the Leonid meteor shower occurs between midnight and dawn this coming Saturday morning. Around 20 meteors an hour are visible at the peak of the shower, originating from the constellation of Leo, from the head of the Lion. As the Moon sets shortly after sunset, this years shower occurs during moonless nights so the meteors should be easier to spot.
No telescope or binoculars required as meteor showers are best observed by naked eye. Anyone making observations of the shower, please forward reports for inclusion here on the website and skynotes.
