Happy New Year

Welcome to 2019

I hope Santa brought everyone what they wanted including new astronomy gear, as this would account for the increase in cloud and fog exactly on Christmas.

I’ve managed a few visual observations of Comet 46P/Wirtanen, currently in the constellation Lynx, but unfortunately I’ve been unsuccessful in getting an image currently, unlike some lucky others who have posted their images on the society members Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/sarasmembers/

I have recently found a really good resource for grab and go observing, skymaps.com.
They provide a monthly sky map with a sky calender and planisphere for the particular month, marked with Deep Sky Objects, all on a handy printable A4 sheet

Our next Ayton meeting will be on Friday 18th January 2019 and SARAS President John Harper will be giving the talk “Around the Zodiac”

There is no public observing in January so Friday 1st February is our next Public Observing session, 8pm to 9:30pm, followed by members-only afterwards.
