Introduction to Astronomy evening
This event is for those who have or want to develop an interest in Astronomy but don’t know where to start or have a telescope and don’t know how to use it effectively.
It will include a short introductory talk followed by a chance for non-members to approach members for help and advice on astronomy or in setting
up and using their telescopes.
Feel free to bring along equipment you may have if you don’t know how to use it.
Free for members.
£3 for non-members, payable on the door.

Our regular public stargazing at the Low Dalby Astronomy Centre in Dalby Forest held during the autumn and winter months. Come and see the stars, planets, nebulae and galaxies under one of the darkest skies in the country. The site of the society observatories was awarded the Milky Way Class of the UK Dark Sky Discovery Award in January 2013.
Please wrap up warm and bring along a torch (preferably with a red filter to preserve yours & others night vision).
Please avoid shining white light torches near the observatories, during the event or at other’s faces at it will take 20 minutes for eyes to readjust to the dark
Take extra care in the car park also.
If the weather happens to be inclement, please don’t be put off. A member of the society will give a talk / virtual tour in the warmth of the Forestry Commission Visitor Centre.
Event itself is FREE. The Forestry Commission now charge on exiting the forest – charge is reduced to £3 per vehicle for this event (code supplied at event).
Charitable donations welcomed.
Suggested donation of £2 per adult and £1 per child.

Guest Speaker Professor Brad Gibson, Professor of Astrophysics & Director of the E.A Milne Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Hull will be presenting “Liquid Mirror Telescopes: Wave of the Future… or just a small ripple”

Guest speaker Stuart Atkinson, from Eddington Astronomical society in Cumbria will be presenting the talk “REMEMBERING CASSINI – Looking back at the Cassini Mission to Saturn”
Stuart describes himself as “a lifelong amateur astronomer and “Public Outreach Educator” living in Kendal, in the beautiful Lake District in Cumbria, England. I am the author of nine children’s astronomy and spaceflight books, and my latest book, “A Cat’s Guide To The Night Sky” was published last October by Laurence King.”
Free entry for members of the society.
