12th Annual Summer Star Festival
"Starfest"
Friday August 17th to Monday August 20th 2012
(Three nights observing)
Adderstone Field, Dalby Forest
We invite you to come and join us for three nights observing in an elevated dark site within the stunning
Dalby Forest on the foothills of the North York Moors. Our site is within easy reach of Pickering, with its steam railway, and the seaside
resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey. There are many beautiful walks in the area, both within the forest itself and further afield.
This area is well known for its many and varied attractions.
There is a large and well-drained field for camping, (tents and caravans) with portable toilets and fresh water taps.
The Starfest booking fee this year will be £22 per adult, (16+); 11-15 year olds £11; 5-10 yr olds £6,
with under fives free.
As last year we can accommodate early arrivals on the Thursday (after 5 pm) in order to help those who
have a long way to come, at an additional cost of £6 per car.
There is a limit to the number of guests we can accommodate, so book early and avoid disappointment!
The fee as usual includes a forest pass to enable you to take advantage of the forest facilities.
Please book ahead so that you can receive your pass otherwise you may be asked to pay the toll as you enter the forest.
Because the hog roast for the past two years has been so popular (despite the rain!) we are
organising another one this year. The cost will be £6 per person (payable at the time of booking) for a hogroast sandwich with apple sauce
and stuffing, salad and a glass of wine or juice. Provision will be made for vegetarians if indicated on the booking form
(no salmon option this year).
Again we will hold one of our team 'Astromind' competitions in the communal marquee and speakers will be
organised for various times during the event If there is anyone amongst you who would like to volunteer to talk or demonstrate at other times,
please let us know.
A local astronomy retailer will be on site for part or all of the time selling astronomical equipment including eyepieces, adapters, filters etc.
